First Bite

A weekly guide to home food makers in downtown Las Vegas — reported, tasted, and filed.

What First Bite Is

First Bite is a free weekly guide to downtown Las Vegas home food makers — a short Friday menu with a link straight to each maker. We sell nothing, take no orders, deliver nothing, and never print a home address.

What First Bite is — the full details
We don't sell food We don't take orders We don't deliver We never print a home address — pickup is neighborhood only
  • Every Friday we publish a short menu — a small, curated list of dishes. We report the world around the meal, and we judge the meal.
  • Makers submit during the week; submissions close Thursday at 3:00 PM.
  • Each menu is small on purpose: a maximum of 12 dishes, no more than 2 per maker.
  • Every listing is labeled cottage (non-potentially-hazardous foods only) or licensed kitchen.
  • Every dish links straight to the maker — you arrange pickup with them, in their neighborhood.
  • Listings are free for makers. Photos, prices, and order details appear only with a maker's dated written okay — and come down within a day on request.

Home Food Is About to Change in Nevada. We Asked the Health District How to Keep It Safe.

By First Bite · Filed under Food Safety / Cottage Rules / 2027 Changes

LAS VEGAS — Nevada's cottage food rules change in July 2027: online and phone sales, mail and delivery fulfillment, and licensing through the Department of Agriculture. Before the first menu ran, First Bite invited the Southern Nevada Health District to be interviewed, on the record, about how the current rules prevent foodborne illness — and what changes when the new ones land.

“SNHD states…” — the interview will be quoted verbatim here, attributed and dated, once it takes place. — Southern Nevada Health District · Interview invited October 2026 · Piece follows launch

The Health District was invited to be interviewed for this article. When the piece runs, it lives permanently in the Archive; if the District later updates a statement, the update is appended, dated — the original is never silently rewritten. Read the standing invitation & question topics →

For the Owner of a Listing

Remove my listing

If a listing here is yours, you can take it down. No questions asked — you don't need a reason, and you don't have to explain. It comes down within a day: off the menu, off your maker page, off the index.

One thing we do check: the request has to come from the email or phone we have on file for that listing. That's how we know it's you asking, and not a stranger pulling someone else's listing. We never ask why.

The button leads to a short removal request form: your listing's name, the contact we have on file, and which listing to take down. There is no “reason” field — deliberately. After you send it, the form answers: “Received. It comes down within a day.” Mock form — inactive

When a listing comes down, the Archive keeps one dated line only — “Listing removed at the owner's request, [date]” — no listing content, photos, or details stay up.
